MUSIC FOR GAMES
FPS Game
Music: Tim Shepherd
This project was completed for the Composition for Media module at university.
The music is a combination of metal and electronic dance music. It was created as a homage to the music used in the Doom series of games. Fitting for a First Person Shooter, the guitars were recorded in the studio and tracked with electronic elements, to create a track that helped to drive the action on screen.

MUSIC FOR GAMES
Status: UNKNOWN
Game Developer: Félix Courtemanche
Music: Asia Baker, Elz Ellez, Tim Shepherd
Status: Unknown is a video game where the player is known as Keeper, an engineer that safeguards a cruise shipwreck, lost in outer space. It crashed on its maiden voyage testing a new hyperdrive technology.
The music was created with the skills of three music producers to realise the director’s sonic vision. The team worked together to create a soundtrack that is unsettling, otherworldly, and perfect for the games atmosphere.

CONCEPT
DEVELOPMENT
AI
ST4RT+
This project will exist as an 8 track EP that uses Generative AI that is trained on Tim’s musical data to produce a Machine Learning model.
There are frequent instances of AI being used by creative practitioners to fulfil gaps in knowledge or skill, to prompt new artistic directions, or even simply as a tool for exploration. Tim is interested in taking a collaborative approach to composition with AI.
This project is located within an ML context, in which Tim will provide the materials to train an ML model, specifically Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) in combination with Variational Autoencoders (VAE), with the goal of creating a model that is based on his compositional style.
Simply put: Tim will use ST4RT+ as a means to generating musical material to help him to create new work from the input he gives it.

MUSIC FOR MEDIA
Palingenesis by Jin Chen
Animation: Jin Chen
Music: Tim Shepherd
This music draws inspiration from Jin’s animation, embodying the cyclical nature of birth and death. It portrays this theme as a journey through free improvisation over synth pads, creating a soundscape that is both melancholic and hopeful. The piano uses a slightly detuned note that makes it more accurately resonate with the harmonic overtone series.
